ACCESS TO PLANE WRECK ON SOLHEIMASANDUR BANNED

Douglas Dakota DC-3 aircraft Solheimasandur

In 1973 a US Navy Dakota DC-3 aircraft crashed in the black sands of Solheimasandur in South Iceland. Over the years this wreckage has become quite famous and each year more and more people have visited the wreck.

Now landowners have decided to close the trail that leads to the wreckage. According to landowners this has been done due to inconsiderate driving. Drivers have not followed the marked trail but driven their vehicle all over the place causing damage to the land. A sign has been set up that banned all access to the area.
